According to these studies, those who are physically active have lower rates of anxiety and depression than that of more sedentary people that do not work out on a regular basis.

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America cites the fact that in a recent study, respondents who got regular vigorous exercise were 35% less likely to develop an anxiety or depression issue over the next five years, given the fact that exercise improves mental health while allowing the brain to better cope with stress.

Working out stimulates a chemical reaction in your body – as it helps your brain produce “endorphins”, which act as natural painkillers in your body, reducing stress.

Not only are there chemical effects in your brain when you spend time exercising, but it is naturally relaxing. For many, time spent at the gym is used as time to unwind, listen to music, and put the rest of your day and life out of your mind for at least a short amount of time.

Exercising can also help you to meet goals that you have set for yourself, which is mentally rewarding and that happiness acts as a defense against stress.
