The fourth quarter of the year can certainly be a stressful time in almost any office. As the year winds down, there is much pressure to close big deals, drive numbers up, and simply tie up loose ends.

In fact, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, seven out of ten adults say they experience anxiety on a daily basis. With that being said, tension among colleagues can be high and there could be a high stress level in your workplace during this time of year.

However, there are – fortunately – things that can be done to combat against these high stress levels. And, luckily for you – these methods of stress reduction are easy and fun!

They are also a great way to build community among co-workers and increase employee wellness overall.

The answer to the stress problem is working out! It is proven to reduce stress, and we will tell you how.

The Facts on Working Out Reducing Stress

Scientists have done countless studies on how working out reduces stress and anxiety in order to understand the relationship between the two. According to these studies, those who are physically active have lower rates of anxiety and depression than that of more sedentary people that do not work out on a regular basis.

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America cites the fact that in a recent study, respondents who got regular vigorous exercise were 35% less likely to develop an anxiety or depression issue over the next five years, given the fact that exercise improves mental health while allowing the brain to better cope with stress.

Working out stimulates a chemical reaction in your body – as it helps your brain produce “endorphins”, which act as natural painkillers in your body, reducing stress.

Not only are there chemical effects in your brain when you spend time exercising, but it is naturally relaxing. For many, time spent at the gym is used as time to unwind, listen to music, and put the rest of your day and life out of your mind for at least a short amount of time.

Exercising can also help you to meet goals that you have set for yourself, which is mentally rewarding and that happiness acts as a defense against stress.
