How to Have the Perfect Houston Staycation
Pick a great hotel
There are tons of amazing hotels in the city that are worth staying at for your dream staycation. We recommend The Westin Houston Downtown, as it’s in a great location, it’s beautifully appointed, and it screams luxury from top to bottom.
If you’re looking for a bit less of a splurge, a great boutique hotel is Hotel ICON, an Autograph Collection property. This is a chic hotel with whirlpool tubs and even a spa. Talk about a great place to get away to within your own town!
When on “vacation” – or should we say a staycation – who doesn’t love to indulge in some shopping?
A great spot to hit up to flex your credit card muscles is The Galleria. With a long list of over 400 shops and 2.4 million square feet of shopping space, there’s someone there for everyone.
We even love how there’s more to do than shop, with a full sized ice rink and a slew of restaurants, too!
Indulge in some authentic Texas style barbecue
As they say, “when in Rome”! It wouldn’t be a Houston staycation without some authentic Texas style BBQ! Can you say, yum?! We recommend some classic spots, such as Gatlin’s BBQ, Killen’s Texas Barbecue, and Ray’s Real Pit BBQ for some delectable eats that will leave you full and satisfying.
Visit a museum
There is no shortage of interesting museums in the Houston area, and you can learn so much from them. Plus, they’re really enjoyable to visit. Start with the Houston NASA Space Center and don’t forget to then go to the Museum of Fine Arts, which notably houses 63,000 works of art from all over the world, which makes it one of the largest museums in the nation.
That’s pretty impressive! Who ever said it’s not fun to play tourist?
Squeeze in a fun workout
Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you don’t need to squeeze some fitness in. Walk around one of Houston’s many parks or opt to do some indoor rock climbing or take a yoga class at Texas Rock Gym. You’ll be glad to get your sweat on and you’re sure to have fun doing it!
As you can see, there is no shortage of fun things to do in the city of Houston, even if you live there. Finding new and exciting things to do in your own town is half the fun – and will make you appreciate the town you live in!
