Team Building @ TRG
Texas Team Builders, a division of Texas Rock Gym, was
established to provide adventure-based team-building experiences based
around the sport of rock climbing. Matt Rubens is our on-site Team Building
Facilitator, and is certified with
Project Adventure. He has experience working with all types
of groups, from corporate and administrative teams, project teams, to
at-risk youth.
What is 'team-building'?
Team-building can be a number of things, and no two events are exactly alike.
Since team-building focuses on people and the dynamics of how a group works
together, every event is tailored to meet the needs of that particular group.
Activities will include elements of teamwork, trust, personal empowerment,
communication, and problem solving to create an exciting and interactive
atmosphere that fosters a healthy dynamic for your team, and hopefully a
working one that will go back to the office with you!
Why a climbing gym?
After years of rock climbing, we have noticed some really positive benefits
that result from people's exposure to the sport. First off, rock climbing
levels the playing field, and is an instant icebreaker. Nothing says 'trust'
like having someone hold your rope while you're 30 feet in the air! Also,
rock climbing challenges you on every level. It constantly is demanding you
to go past the point of attempting things you don't think you can do, often
with pleasantly surprising results. Finally, rock climbing forces problem
solving, since it's not your typical athletic sport, and incorporates
cognitive reasoning with the physical effort needed to succeed.
What does a Team Builder consist of?
Our team builders are not based strictly on climbing. They generally consist
of common low element activities, with a healthy dose of climbing-based
activities that anyone, regardless of their physical condition, can
participate in. Typically a team builder with Texas Team Builders involves
a group of 10-20 people, and a facilitator or two, depending on how many
people are attending. We will create a structured list of indoor activities,
based on the needs of your group, time allowed, and again, the number of
people involved. We can also provide a catered lunch from a local
deli or restaurant.
