When you are preparing to attend your first yoga class, it can certainly be a bit intimidating if you are not a yoga regular. While we totally get your apprehension, we also know that there is absolutely nothing to be worried about!

There are countless benefits to yoga, including a clearer mind and more fit body. To reap these benefits, however, you must be prepared to attend your first class.

So, you are probably wondering what you should eat beforehand, or if you should eat at all. Have no fear, because we are here to answer all of your pre-yoga cuisine questions!

What to Eat Before Yoga Class

Should I eat at all before class?

The answer to this questions is yes! Practicing yoga on an empty stomach can lead to mood swings or low energy levels during class, which would prevent your performance from being as stellar as it could.

This would also prohibit you from reaping the maximum health benefits of the session. That being said, there are some preferable foods that should be chosen over others before class and it’s also important to portion them correctly.

We will take you through our best suggestions here.

Bananas

Bananas are a great pre-workout food because they are rich in potassium. Potassium interacts with sodium, and – in turn – keeps your body hydrated well.

Additionally, the magnesium works to prevent cramps and bloating, making it an ideal snack before a class that requires much flexibility and stretching.

Avocados

These green snacks are filled with things like electrolytes, magnesium, and potassium. All of these substances contribute to proper cell and muscle function, which make them ideal before a yoga class.

Also, because these are light in volume, they will prevent you from feeling too full before class. Try eating softened avocado on cut up veggies for a refreshing and delicious snack!

Dark chocolate

You read that correctly! We are suggesting a delicious sweet treat to get you through class. Dark chocolate is the perfect way to regulate your blood sugar levels after a long day and increase blood flow to your brain.

Dark chocolate also has high levels of caffeine and can enhance your alertness during class. A small portion of this will do the trick – even one small square.

Smoothies

Smoothies are a great on-the-go snack to restore your energy level before heading to a workout. We suggest using items such as bananas, almonds, veggies, and coconut water. This simple yet refreshing mix will fill you up without weighing you down.

fruits

Quinoa and berries

This is a protein packed snack that also contains enough sugar to give you a natural energy boost. Also – this is a delicious snack that is not overly filling, so you will feel great headed into your yoga class.
