Taking time to bond with the people you work with is so important in today’s world. While work used to be noted as a major source of friendship in one’s life, that is no longer the case.

According to the New York Times, in 1985 nearly half of Americans noted that they had at least one close friend at work. However, by 2004, this number had dropped to 30%.

Furthermore, a national survey of American high school seniors revealed that 54% of respondents rated it “very important” that they find a job where they could make friends in 1976, whereas that stat dropped to 48% in 1991 and to 41% in 2006.

This decline is just one reason that it’s a good idea to spend some time outside of work with your colleagues hitting the gym. We’ve compiled a list of further reasons it’s beneficial below – so keep reading to find out more!

It promotes teamwork

As they say, “teamwork makes the dream work”. Working out together with colleagues is one way to strengthen the bond that allows a group to work together with ease.

Try doing a group workout activity like a fitness class or rock climbing course to learn how to communicate with each other better and to enhance your ability to work as a group towards a common goal. You’ll have loads of fun and be able to work better inside the office because of it!

It helps you get to know each other

Tt can be tough to get to know someone on a personal level at work. However, connecting personally can help individuals to work better as a team and to communicate more effectively as well. Plus, it’s nice to know the people that you are spending so much of your life with!

Working out together can facilitate time together that is not uncomfortable or awkward because there is an activity built into it. However, it still leaves time for chatting and getting to know one another, making it a perfect activity to do with the person that sites in the cubicle next to you or as a group.

It’ll give everyone an energy boost

WebMD reports that regular exercise could boost energy by up to 20%, decreasing feelings of fatigue by up to 65%. This is an impressive statistic that can allow you to be a lot more productive during your time at the office.

With that being said, why not take some friends from work to the gym with you? This will provide the group as a whole with more energy, making your team more productive. This will also do wonders to boost morale – people would much rather work with those that are energized and full of life than someone who is perpetually drained and fatigued.

So what are you waiting for? Get to know your colleagues on another level while doing something healthy that will undoubtedly make you feel great. You’ll be happy you did – both inside and outside of the office!
