When you’re on vacation, it can be particularly tough to stay in your workout routine. After all, whether you’re laying by a beach or exploring a new city, you probably aren’t thinking about what you can do to exercise – it may even be the last thing on your mind!

But, given people are apt to splurge on their eating habits when it comes to being on holiday, it makes it even more important to stay in the loop of training and fitness.

Especially in the winter, people are likely to be enjoying a relaxing vacation. Keep reading to discover some easy and effective ways to stay in shape even when you’ve snuck away for some R&R.

How to Keep Up With Your Fitness Routine on Vacation

Pack accordingly

Set your expectations for staying on your workout routine as you pack for your trip. Include a few workout outfits, your sneakers, and a water bottle to ensure that you are fully equipped to exercise in some capacity while you are away.

Without all the necessary items, it’ll be easy to make an excuse to skip your fitness routine. Also, keep in mind that even if you don’t fully stick to your normal regime, even working out half as much as normal when you’re on a trip is a feat.

Do your research

Prior to your departure, it’s good to know your options when it comes to working out. Research whether your accommodations include a gym, the times it’s open, nearby workout classes, or even outdoor options for indulging in your fitness routine.

Knowing what you will be doing ahead of time and planning for it in your schedule will help you ensure that you actually squeeze in your workouts, even if your trip is jam packed.

Be adventurous

Staying active doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to do the same exercises that you do when you’re home and on your normal schedule. While you’re in a new place, you might as well try something new and exciting, right?!

Plan a hike, go kayaking, do yoga on the beach, or do anything else that allows you to both experience something new and keep on top of your fitness.

Planning something adventurous to do on vacation is also a great way to get excited about your vacation workouts instead of them feeling like a chore.

Do it together

Why not involve your travel buddies in your workouts to make it more fun? Ask your relatives, friends, or significant other to hold you accountable to sticking to your routine by exercising with you. Having a partner can make it easier and it is also a great way to spend time together!

It can be really tough to get back on a routine after you fall off the wagon. According to Fitness Magazine, a mere 45% of Americans say they make an effort to avoid gaining weight on vacation (out of a survey of 1,000 people).

Don’t be a part of that statistic and stay fit and feeling good while you enjoy a trip by utilizing the tips listed above.
