Similar schedules

This isn’t necessarily a personality trait, but it’s still important when enlisting in the help of a friend. In order to workout together on a regular basis, you have to have a similar schedule to one another in order to make it work.

Your free time certainly doesn’t have to be identical, but it helps to have a by and large similar schedule so that coordinating times to work out together doesn’t become an unwanted hassle.

Fitness levels

This is not something that needs to match precisely for both of you, but you’ll probably want to choose a workout buddy that has a similar fitness level to you. This way, you’ll easily be able to attend workout classes together or share regime ideas.

They have a good attitude

You’ll want to workout with someone that is optimistic and that has a perpetual good attitude. That will help motivate you and it will most definitely make working out more fun and enjoyable.

They have a similar motivation style to you

Everyone is motivated in a different way. You will want to work with someone who is motivated the same way that you are. Maybe you like positive reinforcement or maybe you respond better to someone who is more harsh. Whatever your preferred style is, find someone who matches that style so that both of you can be effective in motivating each other.

You share similar fitness goals

If one of you wants to lose weight and the other is looking to become a yoga instructor, it might not be a match made in heaven. Find someone who has similar goals fitness wise so that you’ll want to do similar exercises that work to meet both of your goals during every workout you complete.

You like them and enjoy their company

This is a no brainer, but you’ll definitely want to partner with someone who you like, get along with, and enjoying hanging out with. Otherwise, this system probably isn’t going to work! It doesn’t need to be your closest friend, but it should still be someone who you like being around.

These qualities are all very important in your workout buddy as they are the key to your success. While choosing the right workout buddy should be fun and exciting, it’s also a task that should not be taken lightly as it’s a big commitment that will have an impact on your health.
