It seems like most people are almost born with a natural disposition to be either a morning person or a night owl. And while it can be tough to change these tendencies that seem so inherently coded into our DNA, it is entirely possible.

We’re here making a bold claim: that being a morning person can do wonders for your health, happiness, and overall well-being. We totally realize that making this change may seem like a tall task for someone that is used to staying up late and hitting the snooze button three or more times each morning, but take a look at our reasoning and we think you may be quickly convinced to become a morning person.

Reasons to Become a Morning Person for a Healthier Life

It can improve your eating habits

When you have a tendency to stay up late, you probably find yourself indulging in some late night snacks that are less than healthy. Going to sleep earlier can improve your overall eating habits, giving you more time to enjoy a healthy breakfast, getting in key nutrients first thing in the morning, jump starting your metabolism, and allowing yourself to be less hungry throughout the day.

It can improve your sleep quality

Believe it or not, humans are wired to follow the schedule of the sun – to wake when it rises in the morning and sleep when it sets (loosely, at least). When we come off of this schedule, our sleep quality can be downgraded.

Following the schedule that the natural rhythm of our bodies wants us to can have seriously good effects on our sleep and leave us feeling more alert and awake throughout the day.

It can make you more productive

Ever find yourself feeling super groggy in the morning or need pretty much an IV of caffeine to wake yourself up when you get to work?

This probably has a lot to do with your sleep patterns and points to the need for a change. The earlier you wake up, the more awake your body will be by the time you head to work, meaning you will be able to be more productive from the start of the day on.

You can get a workout in

If you get up early, you’ll have more time for a morning workout. If you get it out of the way in the morning, you are less likely to come up with an excuse throughout the day to end up skipping it overall.

Plus, exercising in the morning does wonders for your metabolism throughout the day, is a mood booster, and improves your alertness. Talk about the perfect way to start the day!

The proof is in the pudding, people! Waking up early gives you more time to get yourself started and to do things for you, it improves your health, and can lead to a happier and more productive life overall. Give it a try by starting your day a little earlier than usual and you are sure to love the results you see.
