Martial Arts

Aikido

Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00pm – 8:00pm in the workout room.

Fridays from 11:30am – 12:30pm in the upstairs studio.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that focuses on using the strength and power of an attacker to defeat an attack.  Based on the fighting arts and philosophy of the Samurai, this system dates back 1,000’s of years.  Not only is Aikido an excellent system for self-defense, it will also compliment your climbing by:

  • improving your balance

  • improving your physical and mental coordination

  • improved focus on breathing

  • working muscle groups that are not commonly used in climbing to balance overall strength

  • improving your core strength

TRG Members with an annual or monthly subscription membership can attend our Aikido classes for free.

Non-members can attend for $10 per session.

Tai Chi

Saturdays 9:30am – 11:00am, Thursdays 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Tai chi is a Chinese martial art that teaches precision and coordination through slow, careful movements.  It can help improve your climbing by teaching you:

  • Rooting: how to stand stably despite outside forces that might otherwise push you off balance
  • Centering: how to collect your mind to focus on the task at hand, despite outside distractions
  • Power: how to use the strong muscles of the body to perform actions that are not directly connected with them
  • Body alignment: how to angle each part of the body for maximum strength and stability, to help prevent injury

TRG Members with an annual or monthly subscription membership can attend our Tai Chi classes for free.

Non-members can attend for $10 per session or $50 per month. A first visit to check it out is free.

Kung Fu

Tuesdays from 7:00pm – 8:30pm, Saturdays from 11:00am – 12:30pm

  • Improving flexibility and balance for techniques such as heel hooks and stemming
  • Stretching out muscles in the forearm to prevent injuries to the fingers, wrists and elbows
  • Increasing endurance to allow you to stay on the wall longer
  • Teaching calmness and clear thinking in dangerous or frightening situations

TRG Members with an annual or monthly subscription membership can attend our Kung Fu classes for free.

Non-members can attend for $10 per session or $50 per month.  A first visit to check it out is free.
